Brendan Rodgers would love to add some extra quality to his Champions League squad.

Tuesday’s defeat from Astana highlighted some areas of concern even though every Celtic fan would have jumped at the 8-4 aggregate that takes the hoops into this afternoon’s group stage draw.

A goal from Olivier Ntcham eased any fears of a ridiculous upset with the former Manchester City midfielder stamping his class over both games against the Kazakh champions.

Players of that standard are thin on the ground but with a strong squad developing at Celtic Rodgers knows that there is a limited pool of players that can bring improvement.

We know we need that extra bit of quality,” the Celtic boss told The Sun. “But I still want to work with these players to make them better.

We have young players, and at times when the momentum goes from you it can all become a bit of a blur.

You saw it with PSG last year against Barcelona — and that’s with guys who are on £300,000-a-week!

During our game that PSG scenario didn’t go through my mind. I had to be clear.

The players deserve a huge amount of credit for swinging the momentum back around in their favour and getting goals.”

Rodgers is still hopeful of signing Patrick Roberts from Manchester City with talks ongoing about a new deal.

This afternoon the focus for the Celtic boss switches to the Champions League where Celtic will go in to Pot 4 and could be drawn against any of the five English clubs.

With just two matches before the Champions League opener on September 12 or 13 time is at a premium for new signings to settle into the club.
