Sevco have scooped a £300,000 transfer windfall from the sale of Martyn Waghorn to Ipswich Town.

The deal was completed just before lunchtime after a weekend of talks over a move to the Championship side.

Waggers was left out of Sunday’s 1-0 win away to Motherwell and was in the final year of his contract.

Mark Warburton bought the striker from Wigan Athletic in 2015 with his goals going a long way towards securing promotion to the Premiership.

Last season proved a step too far for Waghorn whose frustrations went viral on social media when he confronted a schoolboy on his way back from the chippie.

Slowly but surely Pedro Caixinha has been able to whittle away at the best squad in the country although transfer fees have been thin on the ground.

Around £650,000 has been raised by the transfers of Joe Garner, Barrie McKay and Rob Kiernan while Micky O’Halloran and Andy Halliday have gone out on loan.

Sunderland were also linked with Waggers but dropped their interest when the price went above £250,000.

The official statement is likely to mention an undisclosed fee.
