Anderlecht will have caretaker Nicolas Frutos in the dug out for next week’s Champions League clash with Celtic.

Following the decision yesterday to sack Rene Weiler the club have put Frutos in charge for three matches as they attempt to find a successor to the man that won the Belgian title in May.

The 36-year-old has been told that he won’t be considered for the job on a full-time basis with Gent boss Hein Vanhaezebrouck believed to be the preferred choice of the board.

There seems to be a complete lack of sympathy for Weiler despite winning the title in his only season in charge with suggestions of problems at every level of the club.

Frutos has no managerial experience but will be in charge for tomorrow’s cup tie away to Westerlo then he’ll be given the weekend match at Beveren and the Celtic tie to buy the club some time.

Frank de Boer was the preferred choice of fans following an online poll but that suggestion has been kicked into touch by the Anderlecht board.
