Ferguson has watched in pain as Celtic racked up six titles with Pedro Caixinha picking up the baton that was too heavy for Ally McCoist and Mark Warburton.

Comparing Caixinha to Brendan Rodgers is a painful exercise with Ferguson reluctantly admitting that for now one side has the upper hand in Glasgow.
“Celtic for me are the team to beat,” he told betsafe. “What they’ve done last season, was for me, I’ve not seen it in my time.
“Playing up here and keeping a close eye on the League, what they did last season was phenomenal.
“Celtic have set the benchmark that clubs like Rangers need to try and get close to.
“I think at this moment in time, Rangers are still two or three years away from really challenging Celtic but again, it does come down to finances.
“Celtic are in the Champions League, and that brings a lot of money in. So if the right player does become available, they can go and splash £5-6million whereas Rangers can’t really do that.”
After returning to Rangers (IL) from Blackburn Rovers in 2006 Ferguson was given a £2.5m side contract which is now liable to income tax and national insurance insurance.
