The SFA have turned to Craig Thomson to take charge of Saturday’s derby clash between Sevco and Celtic.

Alongside Willie Collum, Thomson is one of the most experienced referees in the Scottish game and handled the first ever meeting between the two clubs in 2015 when Celtic won 2-0 at Hampden in the semi-final of the League Cup.

Thomson was given that fixture again last season with his only glaring error the decision to disallow what seemed like a perfectly good headed goal from Erik Sviatchenko early in the second half.

Despite that Celtic went on to win the match 1-0 thanks to a late goal from Moussa Dembele on their way to the first leg of the domestic treble.

Kevin Clancy will be the fourth official with Alan Mulvanny and Graeme Stuart as assistants.

On seven matches so far this season Thomson has handed out seven red cards including two at the weekend when he was in charge of Dunfermline’s 3-0 win over St Mirren.

In August he sent off three Motherwell players when they lost 4-1 at St Johnstone.
