The Daily Record has finally alerted it’s army of readers to the governance crisis in Scottish football.

Earlier this week the Glasgow based publisher went to town with Stewart Regan’s twitter row over ticket prices for the Scotland v Malta match.

At midnight on Wednesday, The Times published details of a letter sent by Peter Lawwell to Regan in 2012 that was highly critical of the SFA alongside news that a request for a Judicial Review two months ago has still to be answered.

With that story bubbling away on social media the Record kept it at arms length until fellow deniers Radio Scotland broke the news that the SFA had written to member clubs rejecting the request for a Review from the SPFL and Celtic.

Soon afterwards the Record led with the SFA rejecting a Review followed later by ‘SFA admit Rangers UEFA license could be probed as tax row continues.’

On it’s own the 2011 UEFA licence is a big issue but alongside the last six years (at least) it is just another symptom of an organisation who seem to see their remit as one to keep alive the ‘Old Firm’ and live off it.

Terms such as conditional membership and improperly but eligible players have been created to apply to the clubs from Ibrox while Albion Rovers, Dunfermline and Dundee United suffer the full force of the rule book without going round the houses and calling in retired judges to legitimise the whitewash.

Denying a Review is one of the biggest errors that Regan has ever made, using the term about ‘raking over the coals’ is something that will hang over his future job prospects.

SFA bashing is easy to do when it comes to ticket prices and other obvious targets- with a much much bigger issue it’s easier for some to look the other way rather than confront a very uncomfortable truth about Scottish football since Dave Murray waltzed on to centre stage.
