Nicolas Frutos can’t believe that he is managing Anderlecht.

The Argentinian has worked in a number of back-room roles since he was forced to retire through injury in 2010 but is about to be pitched into the Champions League.

A 1-0 cup win away to second division Westerlo gave Frutos his first experience of management with reports claiming that Anderlecht appeared to be more attack minded.

Former Celtic target Henry Onyekuru scored the only goal of the game against Westerlo and will be the main threat to Brendan Rodgers’ side.

A week after his first match as manager Frutos will be thrown into the spotlight of the Champions League.

After the win over Westerlo Frutos told DH net: “I still can not believe I am coaching Anderlecht.

I am very happy, and especially after this win, I was much calmer than I thought, but really, I do not realize that I coached a team A match.”

Tomorrow Anderlecht travel to take on Beveren who are also on nine points after seven league matches.

Frutos won’t be able to call on Kara Mbodj for the next fortnight with the 50 times capped Senegal defender out of action for a fortnight with a knee injury.
