Keith Jackson believes that Pedro Caixinha has survived the sack by two goals!
Celtic’s 2-0 win over Sevco leaves the Ibrox board in the difficult position of knowing that their manager is a dud but being just short of the ammunition to justify his P45.
The complex Ibrox boardroom politics will be at play with Dave King handing recruitment over to Graham Park whose daddy writes a monthly cheque to keep the lights on.
If King wants to bin Graham’s favourite football manager he risks Douglas refusing to bankroll the club and the certainty of administration.
A 4-0 Celtic win would have provided the excuse to bin Pedro but for now the caravan will keep on limping along despite the evidence stacking up against it’s driver.
“Had they scored twice more, matching the margin of their last victory at Ibrox, it could have triggered an immediate response from chairman Dave King,” Jackson claims in the Daily Record.
“Since seeing his club eliminated from Europe in Luxembourg this summer he must be wondering why he ever allowed such a fundamental decision as the appointment of a manager to be delegated but looking in the rear view mirror should not be his main consideration right now.
“No, his priority at this critical moment in Rangers development is to draw up his own “progress report” on CaixinhaCaixinha and to decide if he’s delivering value for money. Or if, on the contrary, the evidence stacking up provides conclusive proof of a costly mistake.
This will not be easy, especially given the amount of cash with which the Rangers board has bankrolled Caixinha’s rebuild.
“By pulling the plug on Pedro, King and his board will also be accepting a heavy portion of responsibility for a series of errors in judgment.
“If they do come to the conclusion Caixinha is a busted flush, then not only did they approve his appointment in the first instance but they compounded it by throwing good money after bad and allowing this unheralded wild-card to recruit in such big numbers at such vast expense.
“It will require no shortage of bravery or humility from the Rangers board to reach such
a decision. It’d be a great deal easier in the short term to continue endorsing Caixinha while hoping against hope he may yet get it right.”
King was nowhere near Ibrox on Saturday but will have nowhere to hide when the club finally produces it’s accounts for the year to 30 June 2017.
With significant signings made since then and no sign of the club getting close to profitability the accounts are certain to contain a Going Concern warning with the soft loans from Park required to continue trading.
