Pedro’s defensive nightmare

Pedro Caixinha is facing a defensive crisis ahead of Saturday’s visit from Celtic.

After ruling Lee Wallace out for two months the Sevco boss was hit with two fresh injury blows during last night’s extra-time win over Partick Thistle in the League Cup.

Bruno Alves and Declan John both had ice applied to muscle injuries while they sat in the dug out leaving Caixinha facing an anxious wait over their fitness.

When we were controlling the second half I had to take Bruno and Declan off at the same time,” he explained to The Scotsman.

Both have problems and that is the reason I was forced to make the substitutions.

We know we have four days so we need to assess them over the next 24 to 48 hours and see whether we have a clearer idea if they can make it. I need to know before I can make my decision for Saturday.”

John was signed on loan from Cardiff just before the transfer window closed and looks set for an extended first team run with Wallace out with a serious groin strain.

Alves was hailed as a touch of class when he signed from Cagliari but has failed to make any improvement to the Sevco defence.

If both men miss out Caixinha is likely to turn to Lee Hodson at full-back with future Scotland skipper Ross McCrorie to come in to central defence.
