Unai Emery has hit back at FFP complaints made by Juventus, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich about the level of spending at Paris St Germain.
The PSG coach found himself with the biggest budget in Europe during the summer and signed Neymar from Barcelona before convincing Kylian Mbappe to turn down Real Madrid in favour of the French giants.
UEFA’s rules on FFP are meant to ensure that spending is related to income but even by delaying Mbappe’s £166m deal by a year PSG seem to be miles away from having a sustainable business model.
Yesterday it was claimed that PSG were ordered by UEFA to sell eight players at the end of the summer transfer window in an effort to placate their critics.
With the focus of football on the spending of the French club Emery believes that it’s simply jealousy that is driving the complaints of the big clubs, including Bayern who visit the Parc de Princes tonight on Champions League duty.
“When I was in Spain, I watched the big clubs — Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, the Manchester clubs, Juventus — and I saw that every year they would buy the best players in the world,” the PSG coach told First Post.
“The team here has taken big steps towards competing with the best sides. Today, in sporting terms, we have more enemies.
“They see that we are a serious team with the players we have bought in the past and also this year, and now we can also be among the candidates to win the Champions League.
“That is why for other teams we are now the sporting enemies and people talk more about us. Lots of things are said, some true, some not. But I think it’s good that people are talking a lot about PSG because PSG are among the top clubs in Europe.”
