Rodgers: We can get better

It was a sentiment that every watching Celtic fan felt and was articulated by Brendan Rodgers.

Celtic were short of their best and won 3-0 away from home in the Champions League!

Almost every Champions League victory has required a near super-human performance with players playing out of their skin with a slice of luck thrown in.

In Brussels last night Celtic were off the pace for much of the first half and passed up a number of decent chances after the break.

Despite that our tails are up, a Europa League place looks a near certainty with Scott Sinclair and Leigh Griffiths off the mark in the Champions League group stage.

Throughout the game and afterwards Rodgers remained unmoved. He took a cold detached view of the early struggles, made adjustments and watched as things paid off in the second half.

His post match analysis began on the flight home, by lunch time today he’ll know the full picture and begin improvements on the training pitches at Lennoxtown.

We will reflect on the game and I believe we can be better than we were tonight,” he stated in his post match conference.

But the players deserve huge credit on the back of such a high intensity game at the weekend. They deserve all the plaudits they get.

It was an outstanding performance and result. Everyone had built the game up beforehand so it was a real pressure game for us.”

Celtic face Hibs on Saturday but all thoughts are already on the October clashes against Bayern Munich.

Antonio Ancelotti’s side lost 3-0 away to Paris Saint Germain and are sitting in third place in the Bundesliga with 13 points from their first six matches.
