Like most viewers Chris Sutton couldn’t believe what he was seeing with Carlos Pena on Saturday.

Dubbed ‘Gullit’ in the summer for the purpose of selling season tickets the midfielder finally got to start a match- three months after signing for a £3m transfer fee.

That fee has been getting nudged downwards each week of the season as it becomes clear that the former Mexican internationalist can’t cut it.

After three months of training Pena looks yards off the pace with Celtic’s movement at Ibrox brutally exposing that fault.

With the pressure mounting on Pedro Caixinha he is in a bizarre Catch 22 situation with Pena- play his star signing or face questions over wasting so much money on one under achiever.

Explaining the issue in the direct language he specialises in Sutton told the Daily Record: “And there has to be huge question marks, particularly over Carlos Pena and his attitude since he came to Glasgow.

He was handed a start on Saturday to show what he can do. He’s had long enough to get fit but was miles off it. He can’t run. He can’t move.

Whether he was short of fitness or whatever it was a mistake playing him and it was like playing with 10 men in that first half.”

It didn’t get any better for Sevco once Kenny Miller had replaced Pena will Celtic dominating the second half.

The best squad in Scotland were blown away, exposed and left in mid-table six points behind Aberdeen in the battle for second place.

A win at Hamilton on Friday will delay the inevitable with another international break coming up to take the spotlight away from the bull-fighter in charge at Ibrox.
