Erik Sviatchenko has spoken about how he almost left Celtic during the summer transfer window.

The Danish midfielder is currently out injured but according to a report in The Sun he has spoken freely about options to move to FC Copenhagen and Beskitas.

Sviatchenko has dropped way down the pecking order but Celtic are unlikely to be pleased about a player talking openly about transfer options elsewhere.

The interview appears to have surfaced in Denmark with The Sun reporting the defender saying: “I spoke to Celtic about my future, but there are three parties that had to agree – me, Celtic and FC Copenhagen.

Their manager, Stale Solbakken, has followed me for many years so I wasn’t surprised in their interest. I told the club I wasn’t completely satisfied at being third choice.

Besiktas were also really interested in me as a loan signing. That could have been exciting.

They are a big club that qualified directly for the Champions League and it could have been interesting to try.

Copenhagen could have been a great match for me too, but it didn’t happen and I’m still a Celtic player.

I’m still really proud and happy about the things I’ve achieved at Celtic and I’m not finished at Celtic yet.”

Since the return to favour of Dedryck Boyata in January Sviatchenko has found himself on the outside looking in with Jozo Simunovic signing a new contract last week.

Celtic paid Midtjylland £1.5m for the defender in January 2016 but it seems likely that Sviatchenko will be on the move in January for a fee in the region of £3m.
