Celtic are well known for winning unique trophies with the Wembley Cup of 2009 one of the special pieces of silverware on display in the boardroom.

Tony Mowbray lasted less than a full season and is a manager that is normally glossed over when it comes to the club’s history but over a July weekend in London he left his mark.

With the Gordon Strachan reign over Mowbray came to the club with memories of an exciting Hibs team fresher than the relegation he had suffered with West Brom.

Strachan’s final season had been a painful one with a seven point lead at the new year thrown away with two goal-less draws in the final matches against Hibs and Hearts killing the title challenge stone dead.

Mowbray inherited a team that had more than a few characters with Marc Crosas, Paddy McCourt and Georgios Samaras all being far from conventional.

Following a bizarre one match trip to Australia, Celtic found themselves in London alongside Barcelona, Spurs and Egyptian side Al Ahly.

Late on the Friday afternoon Celtic kicked the event off with a 5-0 win over Al Ahly thanks to a double from Scott McDonald with Massimo Donati, Shaun Maloney and Chris Killen finding the net in their bumblebee kit.

When Spurs drew 1-1 with Barcelona it set up the Celtic v Spurs match on the Sunday as the chance to win a trophy with a highly unusual Celtic side winning 2-0 to lift the trophy.

Killen and Samaras scored the goals as Celtic beat the following Spurs side:

TOTTENHAM: Gomes (Cudicini 46); Hutton (Naughton 46), Assou-Ekotto (Corluka 46), Dervite (Modric 46), Chimbonda; Lennon (Rose 46), Huddlestone (Bostock 76), Palacios (Livermore 46), O’Hara (Obika 82); Keane (Pavlyuchenko 46), Bent (Defoe 46).

LUCASZ ZALUSKA

Enjoyed a very comfortable six years as understudy to various keepers at Celtic after signing from Dundee United.

Artur Boruc seemed to lose interest under Mowbray with Zaluska making 16 appearances including an impressive 0-0 away to Hamburg in the Europa League.

He left Celtic in 2015 and has turned out at SV Darmstadt, Wisla Krakow and Pogon Azczecin.

DANNY FOX

An early signing in the Mowbray era, he came from Coventry with his left foot described as a wand.

After his debut at Wembley he seemed the real deal in a problem position and even earned a Scotland call up.

In the January transfer window he was a surprise transfer to Burnley and has gone on to a decent career with Southampton and Nottingham Forest where he is struggling to get into Mark Warburton’s side.

DARREN O’DEA

Captained the side at Wembley but was soon on the road to Reading where Brendan Rodgers took him on loan.

Further loan spells followed at Ipswich and Leeds but he was never given the chance to build on his performances against AC Milan.

Some real globe trotting followed with stops in Canada, Ukraine and India but he now seems settled as captain of Dundee.

GLENN LOOVENS

Had been signed a year earlier but Strachan didn’t seem in a rush to break up the Stephen McManus and Gary Caldwell partnership.

Despite featuring under Mowbray and Lennon he was never convincing although he did enjoy a good send off with a goal in the 2012 title win at Rugby Park.

After a season with Real Zaragoza he returned to the UK and is starting his fifth season with Sheffield Wednesday.

KOKI MIZUNO

Was presented as the next Nakamura but that was never likely to be the case.

A goal away to Falkirk the previous season when Aiden McGeady was under a club suspension was as good as it got.

In the summer of 2010 he left without any fanfare, returning to Japan where he signed for second division side Kashiwa Reysol with his career petering out.

MARC CROSAS

Became a cult figure among the Celtic support and the first player to engage with fans on twitter.

Like a few others he featured under Strachan, Mowbray and Lennon without ever becoming established.

After a spell on loan in Russia he found Mexico much more to his liking and is currently playing with Tampico Madero after a short spell at Tenerife.

WILLO FLOOD

Had signed for Celtic in the January after impressing for Dundee United but found his chances limited.

The Dubliner only started four Celtic games before being reunited with Gordon Strachan at Middlesbrough.

He won a League Cup medal with Aberdeen in 2014 and is now back at Dundee United for officially the fourth time.

PADDY MCCOURT

The maverick of the mavericks! The very definition of cult figure.

His goals have become the stuff of legend with everyone looking in wondering why his career never delivered more.

Fitness was never his strength but very very few players have got anything like his skill and ability, at the weekend he scored another incredible solo goal for Finn Harps.

CHRIS KILLEN

Has recently attracted some unwelcome headlines and never came close to meeting the mark at Celtic after signing from Hibs.

His international commitments with New Zealand didn’t help his club career but it did allow him to play at the 2010 World Cup.

Like a few others he was reunited with Strachan at Middlesbrough before a spell in China where he enjoyed some success.

GEORGIOS SAMARAS

Split the Celtic support in the way that few players have ever managed.

Shortly after the Wembley Cup success he scored a memorable goal away to Moscow Dinamo but Arsenal was a step too far for this Celtic side.

Season 2012/13 under Neil Lennon was the high point of his Celtic career, after Lennon and the hoops it all went downhill for the Greek internationalist with Turkish side Samsungspor his latest stop off.

SUBSTITUTES

Gary Caldwell and Ryan Conroy replaced Glenn Loovens and Danny Fox at half time. In the 66th minute Niall McGinn came on for his debut replacing Mizuno with Simon Ferry and Paul McGowan replacing Samaras and McCourt.
