Kris Boyd has finally turned his thoughts to Kilmarock and accused his team-mates of a lack of effort.

Saturday’s 2-0 defeat from Ross County proved to be one too many for Lee McCulloch who was dismissed after three draws and five defeats in the SPFL.

Boyd has scored just one goal in the Premiership but has had plenty to say about Brendan Rodgers, Pedro Caixinha and Celtic fans singing in pubs.

Losing his former Ibrox team-mate has clearly hurt Boyd who has blamed his team-mates for the departure of big Lee.

A manager has lost his job but it’s us as players that need to take responsibility because it has been way off what is expected at Kilmarnock,” the striker told The Sun.

The manager takes the training and picks the team, but once we cross that white line it’s up to us to go and perform. It has not been good enough for weeks.

We’ve shown glimpses in games of what we can do but ultimately it’s about picking up points.

The disappointing thing was the lack of effort on Saturday and that was more or less what we spoke about as a group after, it’s not been good enough and it doesn’t matter who’s in charge, that has to come from the players.

That’s the challenge that we as a group face now but it’s sad to see not only a manager go, but a close friend.”

Boyd is part of the caretaker management team led by Paul McDonald as Killie search for a new manager.

With the international break the Kilmarnock board have got a fortnight to find a replacement for McCulloch who took over as caretaker in March before the deal was made permanent during the close season.

Although Killie aven’t won a Premiership match this season they are level on points with Partick Thistle who they meet at Firhill on October 14.
