Forgotten Celt Cristian Gamboa has some World Cup cheer.

A 1-1 draw for Costa Rica against Honduras secured second place in the final round of CONCACAF qualifying and a place in the Russian World Cup alongside Mexico.

Gamboa played the full match with Kendall Watson scoring in stoppage time to clinch qualification with one match still to play.

In the final round of fixtures with one automatic place up for grabs the USA need a point away to Trinidad and Tobago to qualify, if they lose Panama or Honduras could snatch third place and a trip to Russia. The fourth placed nation will be involved in a play off against Australia or Syria.

Despite his international success Gamboa hasn’t had any game time at Celtic this season with Tony Ralston emerging to challenge Mikael Lustig at right-back.

There was no talk of a summer transfer but the 27-year-old is likely to be on the move in January in order to get first team football ahead of the World Cup Finals.
