Lustig’s last laugh

Mikael Lustig had a good natured ‘fall-out’ with Janne Andersson during Sweden’s 8-0 win over Luxembourg last night.

With Sweden leading 4-0 the Celtic defender was expected to be substituted to give him a breather before Tuesday’s match away to Holland.

Lustig decided to ignore the request from the bench and popped up to score Sweden’s fifth goal as they secured second place ahead of Dick Advocaat’s Holland.

Explaining the situation to Expressen Andersson said: “Lustig is very funny, we had decided he should change then he winks he does not want to. It was very strange.”

After netting Lustig ran off the pitch to sit on the bench with the substitution completed.

The 8-0 win over Luxembourg was Sweden’s biggest win since 1938 and put a dampener on Holland’s hopes as they kicked off in Belarus an hour after the Swedish game ended.

Sweden look destined for the runners-up spot in Group A with France just requiring a home win over Belarus on Tuesday to clinch top place and automatic qualification.
