Twenty four hours after dismissing Gordon Strachan the SFA have put MalKy Mackay in temporary charge of Scotland for a friendly against Holland next month.

The current performance director of the SFA will pick the squad while the search goes on for Strachan’s replacement.

Mackay spent four seasons with Celtic in the mid nineties before spending more than a decade in England winning promotion in successive seasons to the EPL with Norwich, West Ham and Watford.

As a manager he has taken charge of Watford, Cardiff and Wigan.

The friendly against Holland seems utterly pointless, falling between Celtic’s Champions League matches with Bayern Munich and PSG hopefully the hoops Scotland contingent will be excused for the fixture.

Showing a complete lack of awareness Stewart Regan announced on the SFA website: “We are delighted to bring international football back to the north east and are excited to once again welcome the Dutch national team to Scottish soil.

While Pittodrie is not able to host competitive Scotland matches, this friendly provides a fantastic opportunity to bring international football to an abundance of Scotland fans based in the north.

Though we are disappointed not to have qualified for the World Cup play-offs, the work begins now to prepare the team for next year’s UEFA Nations League tournament.

The Netherlands will provide a stern test for the team and top class entertainment value for the fans.”

Aberdeen chairman Stewart Milne has gone public on his wish for Scottish football to move on and ignore more than a decade of cheating from Rangers (IL).
