Pedro Caixinha believes that Sevco are ready to launch their title charge on the back of a 3-3 draw with Morton.

Following the postponement of the glamour friendly with Benfica the Sevco boss moved quickly to arrange a game to fill the gap.

Details about the 3-3 draw with Morton at Murray Park have been thin on the ground with the match played over three periods of 35 minutes.

Kenny Miller came off the bench to score a goal while Ryan Jack was red carded although that will have little impact on Friday’s trip to St Johnstone since the former Aberdeen man was already suspended.

“The whole week was great,” Caixinha told the club TV station. “We took advantage and worked on a lot of aspects, and worked at a high pace. So it was an intense week and we knew it was the moment for us to do that.

“That is why we played the game with three periods of 35 minutes – giving 35 minutes to the players who have had more game-time and then giving a chance to those who have not played that much, as well as giving a chance to some young boys too.

“So overall, it was a really good week and we are starting this week on a totally different level as we prepare for the next match.

“I think Morton play in a similar way to St Johnstone, with more or less the same philosophy, so it was good to put in practice some of those things.”

If Caixinha thinks that St Johnstone will be similar to Morton he could be in for a nasty surprise on Friday night.

Tommy Wright’s side have been top four regulars over the last five seasons and know that a win over the Ibrox club will lift them clear into third place and pile the pressure onto the fifth best coach in Qatar and his fractured squad.
