Lennon’s Celtic comparison

Neil Lennon believes that only Celtic can live with his Hibs side when they hit form.

An early goal from Simon Murray settled last night’s Edinburgh derby to take Lennon’s side back into the top six ahead of their city rivals.

Hibs went into the match trying to pick themselves up from their Betfred Cup defeat from Celtic at the weekend but were driven to victory by the midfield pairing of John McGinn and Dylan McGeouch.

Lennon has had plenty of ups and downs already this season but after last night’s win was full of praise for his side.

The first half was perfect,” he told The Sun. “In terms of intensity and pace, maybe only Celtic could live with that. The scoreline flatters Hearts. We were thoroughly dominant.

I have been involved in a lot of derbies in my time and that was as good as any in terms of the feeling. We came through it brilliantly.

Simon’s goal was a great finish. He’s been champing at the bit recently after being a bit off colour in last few games.

The win over Hearts lifted Hibs into joint fourth place with Motherwell who they face at Fir Park on Saturday.

Anthony Stokes missed the match through injury but as well as McGeouch Lennon was able to call upon Efe Ambrose to marshall his defence with Ofir Marciano restored in goals.
