It was special and after a pressing second half there were thoughts within Celtic Park of another special success.
Alas the Germans were too streetwise and bounced off the ropes with a goal three minutes later but it was a night when Celtic re-emerged and put down a marker for the direction that they are moving in.
They tumbled out of the Champions League but with three Academy bhoys excelling against one of the competition favourites there is plenty to look forward to in the Europa League for Kieran Tierney, McGregor and James Forrest. And the Celtic support.
Lineker knows it, a draw at home to Anderlecht will secure European football beyond Christmas and more opportunities for McGregor and co to enjoy revelling in the big time.
