Pedro Caixinha is ready to help the SFA and has suggested that Graham Dorrans can help solve Scotland’s problems.

The fifth best coach in Qatar has a decidedly moderate coaching CV but that has never stopped him from offering his opinion in areas where he is clearly out of his depth.

After a £10m summer spending spree he was unable to get the best squad in Scotland past Progres Niederkorn.

Carlos Pena was Caixinha’s most expensive signing with the chunky Mexican still waiting to complete his first 90 minutes in a Sevco jersey.

Taking time off from discussing tomorrow’s visit to St Johnstone Caixinha told The Scotsman: “If they (the SFA) called the coaches involved in local football to get an opinion, I have no problem with that.

I respect the opinion [of Strachan] about the genetics but I cannot agree. Even more so if you compare it with the Spaniards, because the players are the same height. “In handball, the players are higher. The same in volleyball and definitely in basketball but not football.

Ronaldo is a tall player but Lionel Messi is not. Both of them are the best players in the world and you have two different types.

Of course, physicality is important but it is not the most important point. Is it about football intelligence? Totally. I don’t think Scottish players are technically behind. We have some good technical players here, one of the best at our club is Graham Dorrans.”

With three defeats from Celtic, two of them at Ibrox, on his CV after six months in the job it’s unlikely that Caixinha will be getting an invite onto the next Think Tank set up by the SFA.

Retaining his own job into the new year looks like requiring all of his coaching ability with Aberdeen already six points clear in the battle for second place.
