Pedro Caixinha has launched an incredible attack on the best squad in Scotland.
At Hampden yesterday he accepted the blame for losing to Motherwell in the semi-final of the Betfred Cup but after sleeping on the defeat his tone changed completely today.
Accusing a group of players of being an embarrassment isn’t the way to get an extra percentage out of a dressing room full of egos. As everyone in the game knows it is much easier to get rid of a manager than a squad of players.
Sky Sports screened today’s conference with Caixinha saying: “I sink that I can’t count on Jak the goalkeeper and you saw today how Fabio’s (Cardosa) face is but I told the players you are embarrassing me, you are embarrassing our club, you are embarrassing our fans and now it’s time for you to react and I’m glad that we are playing on Wednesday.
“So if I can pick the same 11 those guys who really needed to do it yesterday will get the chance to do it on Wednesday.”
Caixinha was then asked about the severity of his criticism and how the reaction could go one way or the other.
“I’m not having a problem taking risks,” he added.
With a divided dressing room due to the influx of highly paid Latin imports during the summer accusing the players of embarrassing their boss is an incredible step for Caixinha to take.
Last month he was still claiming to have the best squad in Scotland.
Sevco host Kilmarnock on Wednesday night with Stevie Clark in charge for the first time and boosted by their first win of the season in their last outing.
It’s unlikely that Caixinha ran his rant past the club’s PR machine with his newspaper critics bound to have a field day detailing the reaction of the players to this latest criticism.
With a three year contract Caixinha probably feels fairly safe but after Mark Warburton was axed in February there is no depth that the club will stoop to to get rid of an under-performing manager.
