Anthony Ralston is facing at least another month on the sidelines with a knee injury.

The young defender has made seven appearances this season but hasn’t been involved in the first team since appearing as a substitute in the 4-0 Betfred Cup win away to Dundee on September 20.

Celtic withdrew the right-back from the Scotland u-21 squad for the last batch of international fixtures and had hoped that the injury could be cured with rest.

Ralston was a big part of the Celtic side at the start of the season allowing Mikael Lustig to be rested or to move inside to play in central defence.

His absence opened the door to Cristian Gamboa but after starting the 3-0 defeat away to Bayern Munich the former West Brom defender has been missing from the matchday squad for the last three matches.

With Celtic’s defensive options already stretched the loss of Ralston restricts Brendan Rodgers plans over the coming month which includes two Champions League ties and the Betfred Cup Final against Motherwell.
