Stewart Regan doesn’t know what to do about Gordon Strachan.
On Saturday and Sunday, up until Leigh Griffiths opened the scoring, the SFA chief was happy to bask in the reflected glory of Scotland being on course for the World Cup play-off’s.
Regan tweeted pictures from Ljubljana and drank with the fans but after Scotland’s World Cup KO he has an out of contract manager blaming generics for another qualification failure.
During his seven years in charge Scottish football has known constant failure with the former Yorkshire cricket chief providing little in the way of leadership.
Famously in 2012 as Rangers faced liquidation Regan claimed that there would be social unrest if there was no club from Ibrox in the top flight of Scottish football.
Reflecting on another failure on his watch Regan told The Sun: “Everyone is disappointed with how the campaign ended but we now need time to reflect on the campaign and discuss it as a board. We’re not going to make any knee-jerk decisions.
“I’ve already had a chat with the manager and we’ve discussed it and I’ve said to him we’ll be discussing things as a board. I don’t think it would be fair on him or fair on us to make any snap judgement.
“We’ll just reflect on it and when we’re ready we’ll make a call on what happens next.
“When that happens, it’s hard to say. I don’t want there to be a stopwatch ticking on any decision.
“We don’t want that as an organisation and we don’t want to put pressure on Gordon.”
Scotland have no meaningful matches until next September leaving the SFA to arrange friendlies with even the ever loyal Tartan Army showing their displeasure with Hampden only sold out for the qualifier against England.
