Brendan Rodgers has name checked St Mirren winger Lewis Morgan.

The 21-year-old is the most exciting talent to emerge in the Scottish game this year and has been heavily scouted since the start of this season.

Saint Mirren turned down offers from England for Morgan during the summer transfer window but are likely to cash in in January with the player out of contract next summer.

Morgan came through the ranks at Sevco but was released at u-17 level before making his mark in Paisley.

Rodgers is keen to develop emerging Scottish talent and despite Scotland’s latest international failure stated the case for native talent as he previewed tomorrow’s clash with Dundee.

You’ve got the players, the players are here,” The Sun reported.

The boy Lewis Morgan at St Mirren: quick, dynamic, can press, can run, can get at people. You’ve got the players, it’s how they are coached and how they are asked to play.

At the highest possible level you have to be able to play football. That’s education, that’s coaching.

People go on about me about going to the Premier League again or going to another country but I enjoy so much of my working life up here, because I get the chance to work at a huge club with big pressure but develop players.”

Rodgers showed in the summer with the signing of Jonny Hayes that he has faith in signing players from within Scotland.

St Mirren believe that holding on to Morgan will give them a far better chance of winning promotion to the Premiership and may opt to hang on to the winger in January rather than cash in and damage their top flight hopes.
