Brendan Rodgers has explained why he is in no rush to work in England.
Despite the best efforts of pundits in Scotland and England to big up the EPL and run down Rodgers’ achievements with Celtic the Irishman is loving life in charge of Celtic.
On Sunday he took time out to work with the Celtic u-14 side, in three years time some of those players may follow Kieran Tierney, Tony Ralston and Mikey Johnston into the first team.
Rodgers managed in the EPL at Swansea and Liverpool but has taken an interest in the limited time that managers are given with Frank de Boer sacked after four matches and Ronald Koeman and Craig Shakespeare given not much longer before being dumped on the scrapheap.
Explaining his preference for managing Celtic Rodgers told TalkSPORT: “It’s a dream, every day managing this club is a huge privilege and it’s hard for people from outside to understand the size and scale of Celtic.
“We have 60,000 every other week, we’re playing in the Champions League and I can develop young players, that’s what I enjoy doing. I can see the fruits of my work here.
“I look at management in the Premier League and you are virtually working to a six week cycle. If you lose three or four games you are under huge pressure so how can you pick young players?
“How can you develop, a club? You can’t, you are virtually working in that cycle, whereas here I get the chance to develop players here.”
Tomorrow night Rodgers will send his side out to face Bayern Munich in the Champions League, having won on Matchday 2 away to Anderlecht Celtic are in a great position to qualify for the Europa League with the last 32 starting in February.
