Brendan Rodgers has diplomatically sidestepped Karl Heinz Rummenigge’s comments about Robert Lewandowski.

This morning Bayern announced that their top striker would miss the trip but chairman Rummenigge reassured concerned fans that it was simply a precaution to leave the Pole behind and that had the opponents been Real Madrid Lewandowski would have travelled!

That comment seemed out of place with just three points between the two clubs in Group B and Bayern still hoping to top the group.

Rodgers has more to his managerial skills than the infamous ‘pin it up on the dressing room wall’ routine and won’t be short of motivation for Tuesday’s match.

The Celtic boss seemed stung by the level of criticism that his side attracted after losing 3-0 to Bayern in the Allianz Arena.

Although Rodgers defended his players he’ll be looking for more in front of a sell-out crowd with the Irishman looking at a bigger picture of long term improvement from his squad.
