Brendan Rodgers will NEVER park the bus to snatch a big result in Europe.

Generations of Scottish fans have been told that their teams are inferior and can’t expect to match or outplay continental opponents.

Last season Celtic took a hiding in Barcelona but took that one on board and earned draws away to Borussia Monchengladbach and Manchester City.

That approach paid dividends away to Anderlecht last month but came unstuck against Bayern Munich who eased to a 3-0 win on Wednesday night.

Rodgers has heard the criticism, from outwith the club, but won’t be shifting from his belief in creating attack minded players capable of matching up to the best that the Champions League can offer.

Asked if he would consider a more defensive approach he told the Daily Record: “You are looking at the wrong man. It’s not me. I have no compromise. We play and our players will get better.

We’re doing remarkably well with our run and record domestically, but I came here to create a level of football which was for this (Champions League) level and not just domestic football.

That is just about time, confidence and giving them the confidence while being exposed to the top level as often as possible.

You think of the level in this competition, it’s absolutely frightening, really. For us, this is what we have to do in this new football.

You could maybe play for 100 years and never bridge the gap financially, but we’re working away in a difficult market in the Champions League and trying to compete.

“That’s the overall objective. To be competitive at this level and that’s working collectively as we work. Of course, you may have managers who do it in a different way, but I have no compromise. It’s how I work.”
