Scott Brown has described Gordon Strachan’s sacking as a sad sad day.

The Celtic skipper ended his brief international retirement a year ago to help Strachan out and is unlikely to be available to his replacement.

Strachan signed Brown from Hibs in 2007 with the two men forming a special bond over the years.

Brown helped Scotland get back on track towards World Cup qualification but was missing through injury for the matches against Slovenia and Slovakia.

A 2-2 draw away to Slovenia ended Scotland’s hopes of a play off in what turned out to be Strachan’s final match in charge.

The SFA International Committee met this morning at Hampden with news of Strachan’s departure released early this afternoon.

Davie Moyes is the early favourite to take over at Hampden with Paul Lambert, Alex McLeish and Malky Mackay all among the front runners to take over from the former Celtic and Middlesbrough boss.
