Michael Stewart believes that Celtic can beat Bayern Munich- if they can reach the heights that they showed in brushing Aberdeen aside last week.

The win at Pittodrie again highlighted the great debate with the gulf between Celtic and the domestic challenge similar to the one between the hoops and the European elite.

A week before their win at Aberdeen Celtic had been outplayed by Bayern in the Allianz Arena with the same opponents coming together 14 days later.

Brendan Rodgers will make a number of changes to the side that lost in Germany with Moussa Dembele and James Forrest offering a different attacking dynamic.

Celtic’s performance at Aberdeen has been acknowledged as their finest domestic display of the season with the big question on Tuesday being whether they can reach the same heights against the German champions.

If a European team came to these shores and produced a similar display we would be gushing about it for years, so credit where it is due to Celtic,” Stewart said in The Sun about the Pittodrie performance.

The 3-0 win also came on the back of a hectic schedule which has done them few favours.

It also highlighted that the gap between Celtic and the rest appears to be growing. It is ENORMOUS.

Yet the chasm between Rodgers’ side and the top clubs in Europe also remains pretty substantial.

It is not insurmountable, but it is still going to be very difficult for them to take three points from Bayern. The Germans are still, without a shadow of doubt, one of the elites teams in Europe.

However, they are not in the same league as PSG, who wiped the floor with Celtic last month. Celtic will rarely face anything like what the French side produced in Glasgow. Few teams in the competition this year will be able to match them.

You also can’t ignore the scoreline in Munich two weeks ago but if Celtic can play at the same tempo they did at Pittodrie it is not beyond the realms of possibility they can achieve an historic victory.”

While Celtic take on Bayern, Anderlecht travel to face PSG with the clock ticking down towards the December clash between the Scottish and Belgian champions that will decide a Europa League place.
