Chris Sutton couldn’t believe what he was hearing when Ally McCoist told him that Kyle Lafferty was a better striker than Leigh Griffiths!
As the post mortem continued over Scotland’s World Cup exit the BT Sport pundits discussed the merits of the Scotland squad compared to Northern Ireland and Iceland.
McCoist’s justification for his argument was the run of goals that Lafferty enjoyed helping Northern Ireland to qualify for the European Championship finals in France last summer.

During the current World Cup qualifying campaign Lafferty scored three times in group matches compared to the four notched by Griffiths in a team that couldn’t reach the play offs.
At domestic level the contrast is much sharper with Griffiths scoring seven times for Celtic with his most recent strikes coming away to Sevco and Anderlecht.
Lafferty joined Hearts in the summer on a free transfer and has scored three Premiership goals with the Edinburgh side stuck in the bottom half of the table.
Neither Northern Ireland or Iceland can call on seven players currently playing in the Champions League.
