Tory MP dodges Commons vote

|

Linesman Douglas Ross is under-fire for missing a crucial House of Commons vote to be on duty at the Nou Camp for Barcelona’s Champions League tie with Olympiakos.

Constituents in Moray will be without a voice in Westminster as the vote on Universal Credit is taken.

Ross was voted in as MP in June and has continued to climb the ladder as one of Scotland’s leading referees.

Rather than pick one career path Ross is trying to juggle two jobs with the SFA helping out by excluding him from midweek matches.

A trip to Barcelona and promotion onto the UEFA list however was too good to turn down but Ross is under fire for skipping a Commons vote to wave his flag at Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

Stewart Stevenson the SNP MSP for the area told the BBC: “He is yet again leaving his constituents without a voice in Parliament because he’d rather rub shoulders with famous footballers.

“This isn’t the first time that he’s failed to turn up for important meetings, and his constituents will be wondering why he shows no interest in discussing universal credit – which is driving up rent arrears and leaving families penniless.

“It’s time for two-job Ross to call time on his highly lucrative refereeing career.”

Ross will return from Barcelona to assist Kevin Clancy at Saturday’s Celtic v Hibs League Cup semi-final. Frank Connor is the other assistant and also officiated at the Inverness Caley Thistle v Celtic Scottish Cup semi-final in 2015.
