Moussa Dembele has joked about becoming an amputee as Celtic lifted the Betfred Cup at Hampden.

Thirteen minutes into the game the striker was on the end of a brutal challenge from Cedric Kipre that went unpunished by referee Craig Thomson.

As the striker started a run towards goal the Motherwell defender slid over the top of the ball and into Dembele’s lower leg.

Dembele lay on the ground wondering what had hit him as Motherwell lived up to the rough house tactics that they had spent the week denying.

Fortunately the striker was able to continue and scored Celtic’s second goal as Kipre enjoyed an early bath for fouling Scott Sinclair.

By then Celtic were already one goal in front after James Forrest had scored early in the second half with only a Louis Moult header that Craig Gordon saved at close range threatening the Celtic goal.

Next up for Celtic is a trip to Fir Park to face Motherwell on Wednesday followed by another clash between the clubs at Celtic Park on Saturday.
