Pedro Caixinha has been accused of costing Sevco £500,000 through the sale of Barrie McKay to Nottingham Forest.

In January the Daily Record reported that RB Leipzig were preparing a £6m bid for the winger but in the summer Mark Warburton snapped him up for £550,000.

Mckay had stalled on a new Ibrox deal with Caixinha sending him to train with the development squad before selling him on.

Managers are rarely involved in the detail of selling players but according to Grant Smith, Mckay’s agent, Caixinha was responsible for Sevco missing out on a £1m fee.

Speaking to the Daily Record Smith said: “Forest would have paid a lot more. Easily. Double at least. Mark knew him, Davie Weir knew him and they knew the situation. Rangers took their poker hand away from themselves.

“I mean, some of the stuff Pedro said to him… He was contradicting himself all the time. One minute saying he was the best player in Scotland, the next he was putting him with the youths.

“Someone doing the job of that size should have been doing better. He cost Rangers a lot of money.”

Following a 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock a fortnight ago Caixinha was sacked by the Ibrox board but has still to receive the pay off for his three year contract.

Any attempt to pin the blame for the McKay fee on the former manager are certain to be resisted by Caixinha’s agent with responsibility for the deal falling to Stewart Robertson and Andrew Dickson.
