Keith Jackson has taken Dave King to task on the claim that Mike Ashley and Sports Direct were booted out of Ibrox.

The Daily Record seemed to have a hotline to the inside track on what went on between Sevco and the sportswear giant- to such an extent that an injunction was slapped on the Glasgow based newspaper.

That was applied after the Record revealed that there was a seven year tie-in on the deal that apparently provided the club with the loose change in a merchandise deal.

The Record highlighted a fans boycott of Sports Direct before King announced that the deal had been cancelled in the summer.

Some analysts believed that the cold shoulder coming King’s way from the Takeover Appeal Board was the real reason for the deal being terminated with Jackson highlighting that matter in a critical preview of the club AGM tomorrow.

The South African based criminal has delivered virtually nothing since coming to power in March 2015 with Sevco manager-less as they host Aberdeen tonight trailing Derek McInnes’ side by six points.

Questioning the company chairman, Jackson asks: “Had King acted decisively at any point in all of this, then they (the fans) may have been spared from such unrelenting agony.

Still, at least they have the consolation of watching it unfold in the comfort of their replica home and away kits which have done a roaring trade ever since King grabbed Mike Ashley by the contractual horns. Isn’t that right?

Or were they merely being protected from the whole truth of the matter in the summer when it was announced that Ashley’s Sports Direct empire had been forced to loosen its grip on the Rangers retail wing?

At that point, the fans were urged to splurge their blue pounds on anything bearing a club crest as King had, in heroic fashion, renegotiated the terms of the deal between Ashley and Charles Green which had been crippling to the club’s accounts.

They were told Sports Direct would be facing a legal bill for as much as £5m in lost revenue as Ashley’s tanks slipped into reverse. There was no mention that, in fact, Rangers would end up sending a cheque worth £3m to Sports Direct as part of the agreement.

It will be interesting to note if any other questions are asked about this curious pact in order to discover if there may be more devils lurking in the detail.”

Jackson added: “King may also be asked to look around at some of the faces on his top table and explain what value his paid executives are adding. In Stewart Robertson he has a managing director who shows little signs of either managing or directing the club through this latest malaise.

What, for that matter, is the point in director of football Mark Allen who appears to have no voice within the decision-making chamber. If he does, then was he asleep in the passenger’s seat when Caixinha was spiralling out of control?”
