Peter Lawwell has praised Brendan Rodgers as one of the Celtic greats.

This afternoon a 4-0 win over St Johnstone saw Rodgers’ side create a new British record by going 63 domestic matches unbeaten..

Rodgers remains unbeaten domestically with today’s win taking the current side past the 100 year old record set by Willie Maley’s side during the first World War.

Speaking to the club website Lawwell said: “Celtic’s rich history features so many giants, including the great Willie Maley who previously held this record. Brendan and our players have once again shown why they will also go down as Celtic greats.

As a Club we always aim to be the best and we will continue to do all we can to keep reaching new heights and give our fans a team and a club they can be proud of.”

Today’s win took Celtic three points clear of Aberdeen who were held to a 2-2 draw away to Hamilton Accies.

Rodgers’ side took the lead in the first half through Scott Sinclair with second half goals coming from Moussa Dembele, Olivier Ntcham and an own goal from Steven Anderson.

During the course of the run Celtic have won three domestic trophies and reached the final of this season’s Betfred Cup.

St Johnstone were the last team to beat Celtic with the current run starting off in a 7-0 win over Motherwell in Ronny Deila’s first match in charge.
