Malky Mackay has revealed that he had no idea that Stewart Regan had ruled him out of contention to become Scotland manager on a permanent basis.
Last night’s caretaker manager had played everything by the book, being diplomatic at every stage as he bailed the SFA out following the sacking of Gordon Strachan.
The SFA are certainly not spoiled for choice when it comes to finding a new national manager with Mackay stepping up from his role as Performance Director.
For reasons of self projection Regan decided to go on TalkSPORT yesterday afternoon and on the eve of an international dismissed the prospects of the current caretaker.
Regan certainly doesn’t have the Midas touch as his CV illustrates with his TalkSPORT announcement taking his caretaker manager by surprise.
Asked if he had been made aware in advance of the announcement in advance Mackay told the Daily Record: “No, obviously not. I’m up here in Aberdeen and I was thinking about nothing else than the game.”
With Davie Moyes getting the West Ham job the SFA are running out of candidates that won’t require a compensation payment.
Earlier this season Regan was exposed as not knowing the pricing of Scotland international tickets after getting drawn into a twitter row.
