Brendan Rodgers has already drawn up his January transfer plans.
In England the January transfer window tends to be a sideshow but for Celtic it is the most important period of the season.
Negotiating their way through European qualifiers starting in January impacts on 40% of the club’s revenue with Rodgers steering the hoops into the group stage of the Champions League two seasons running.
Last January Eboue Kouassi was the only new signing but it seems certain that there will be a couple of additions as Celtic go into the Europa League and prepare, hopefully, for another batch of Champions League qualifiers.
“I will look to go into the market in January,” he told The Sun. “When you are winning and strong, that’s when you have to strengthen.
“We know what we want and there is a process ongoing to hopefully get the right players in.
“You need to have a different personality to play with Celtic because of the demands. You need to be able to cope with the pressures of being at a big club.
“We have seen it before when some players find the jersey too heavy at a big club like this. If we are bringing the player in January, he has six months to settle and adapt.
“Most of the players had ten days off last year. The most was three weeks. We are back on the 19th June this year for the qualifiers in July.
“It’s difficult to get players in during the summer and then put them into the most important games of the season.”
During the summer Olivier Ntcham was Rodgers’ most expensive signing with an initial payment of £4m made to Manchester City.
Having lost out on Rivaldo Coetzee after the defender failed a medical it seems that a new central defender will be the transfer priority.
