Brendan Rodgers protested to the SFA after Kieran Tierney spent most of the Scottish Cup Final in the Victoria Infirmary.

The young defender had to undergo surgery after being elbowed by Jayden Stockley in an incident that went unpunished by referee Bobby Madden.

Tierney has been on the receiving end of a number of OTT challenges with that incident brought up today at the Celtic AGM.

A supporter who had watched since the forties claimed that the incident was one of the worst that he had witnessed and that the club should be making their anger and protests known to the authorities.

Chairman Ian Bankier neatly slipped that question to Rodgers who gave a full answer echoing his concerns.

I agree with everything you said,” the Celtic boss replied to the shareholder that raised the question. “I spoke to the referee association about the matter, it was similar in the other semi-final of the League Cup this season (Sevco v Motherwell).

I’ve seem some people make up excuses about clumsy players that jump with their elbows.

Hopefully any future incident will be seen by officials, they’ll look at it and make sure it never happens.”

Tierney was also on the end of a nasty knee high challenge from Motherwell’s Ryan Bowman who was involved in a couple of elbowing incidents in the Betfred Cup semi-final win over Sevco.

The young Celtic defender was rushed to hospital during the first half of the Hampden clash against Aberdeen but returned to Hampden in time to pick up his winners medal.
