Kris Boyd has launched a stats attack on Celtic!

The leading SPL scorer of all time (from 1998 to 2014) has managed just one career goal in 17 years against Celtic but couldn’t wait to put the boot in after the hoops lost to Paris Saint Gemain.

Taking his cue from the gloating of Ibrox fans who’ve lost six times out of seven to Brendan Rodgers side Boyd was in full flow as he knocked out his column for The Sun.

Put it this way, in four games Neymar has played against Celtic the aggregate score is now 21-1,” the Kilmarnock striker typed. “And I’d bet he’s not even got a bruise on his leg.

No matter the standard of opposition, that’s just embarrassing.

I could sit here and go through the performance the other night and single out individuals but this column only goes over two pages.

I’d need the whole paper but it all boils down to the way Celtic set up and how open they leave themselves when they should be shutting up shop.”

Boyd does know a thing or two about shutting up shop from years of watching Walter Smith in action from the Ibrox bench.

The SPL’s all-time top scorer barely got a look in when it came to the Champions League and never scored a single goal in the group phase of the competitions.

Leigh Griffiths, Callum McGregor and Scott Sinclair have scored more Champions League goals than Boyd.

Explaining, very selectively how to succeed in Europe Boyd added: “I remember Rangers being thumped by Juventus during Walter Smith’s first spell as manager.

He was slaughtered for the way his team were ripped apart by an Italian side that were as good as anything around at that time.

But Walter learned lessons. By the time he was manager for his second stint he realised there was no point in trying to mix it with the best.

We lost games in Europe but we were always able to walk off the park with our heads held high.”

Over 36 Champions League group matches Smith won six games out of 36 with Grasshoppers Zurich and Auxerre winning at Ibrox as well as beatings handed out by Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and Ajax.

In one of Boyd’s very rare Champions League appearances he came off the bench in the 84th minute to replace Brahim Hemdani as Rangers (IL) trailed 1-0 at home to Lyon needing a point to join Celtic in the last 16.

The chunky striker had barely broke sweat when Kazim Benzema scored twice in the 85th and 88th minutes with a night of misery for the home side completed when Jean Claude Darcheville was sent off in the 90th minute.

Perhaps Boydy can remind Sun readers of that bus parking exercise from Smith after Rangers (IL) had called off a game against Gretna to enjoy extra training time to face Lyon.
