Chris Sutton has delivered some home truths to Joey ‘Sunday League’ Barton.

The former Sevco midfielder compared Celtic’s 63 match unbeaten run to a Sunday League despite being on the end of a 5-1 hammering from the hoops.

Barton arrived in Scotland promising the earth but after half a dozen Premiership appearances he returned south with a pay out and his tarnished reputation in pieces.

Sutton watched the midfielder crash and burn and didn’t spare his feelings as he let rip in the Daily Record.

Barton undermines the achievement,” the former hoops midfielder said of his old club’s unbeaten 63 match run. “Said he knew of Sunday League teams that have managed it.

Well the truth is Joey was arguably Rangers’ worst signing and was part of the 63-game record in probably the most memorable game where he was humiliated at Celtic Park by Scott Brown.

He could have stopped the run but instead chooses to belittle the game north of the border and talk it down.

Joey has had a decent career but couldn’t cut it on the pitch in the SPFL and was found out. He talked the talk but kidded nobody in Scottish football.

The only thing Sunday League were his performances for Rangers.”

After a six week suspension from Sevco, on full pay, Barton was paid off for the remainder of his two year Ibrox contract and rejoined Burnley.

His Turf Moor return was delayed due to a one match SFA ban for betting on football matches but the midfielder is now serving a 13 month FA ban for betting on football.
