UEFA have wished Celtic well on their 130th birthday.

Yesterday marked the day when the club was formally proposed in 1887 with the first match being played six months later.

While the founding reasons are unique in world football it is more recent achievements that make Celtic recognised across the football world.

The Lisbon Lions set a new standard in 1967 but in the modern age there has been a number of landmarks that have attracted the attention.

In 2003 led by Henrik Larsson 80,000 fans travelled to Seville for the final of the UEFA Cup with the club picking up Fair Play awards from UEFA and FIFA.

Five years ago today, after celebrating their 125th birthday Celtic defeated a Barcelona side widely regarded as one of the best ever in a memorable Champions League clash.

Already this season FIFA have voted the Celtic support as The Best with the praise of Bayern Munich still fresh after last week’s meeting of the two clubs.
