Kieran Tierney has revealed that Conor McGregor is his Mr Motivator.

The young defender is closing in on his 100th Celtic appearance and has captained club and country this season.

Speaking to Celtic TV Tierney said: “Conor McGregor is motivational with his quotes and his mind set. He is good for any young person making their way in a sport.

I met him in Belfast which was great for me and I spoke to him for five or ten minutes about Celtic.

I was injured at the time and I got a boost just from speaking to him. After we spoke I came back to training really motivated.”

Tierney appears to take the best of advise on board and is keen to learn from various sources.

Brendan Rodgers has praised the 20-year-old’s attitude as much as his ability with the defender applying himself as much in training as he does on the park.

After the international break the club pressure is quickly cranked up with Celtic facing Paris Saint Germain and Motherwell in the final of the Betfred Cup following Saturday’s trip to Ross County.

Tierney missed last season’s Betfred Cup Final win over Aberdeen through injury and lost teeth during the Scottish Cup Final win over the same side.

After captaining Scotland against Holland Tierney will go into the Dingwall match with the relative comfort of a nine day break before a hectic programme of matches until the turn of the year.
