Celtic’s cut of Virgil van Dijk’s transfer fee could be close to £10m.
Nothing concrete has ever emerged about the sell on clause inserted when the defender was sold to Southampton in 2015.
A 10% cut of any future profit would be the minimal agreement and one that Southampton wouldn’t have batted an eyelid over.
According to a report in The Telegraph Celtic’s cut could be 15% of the fee with Southampton managing to get £75m for the defender which could see close to £10m finding it’s way to Celtic Park.
Since Brendan Rodgers arrived at Celtic Stefan Johansen has been the only first team player sold, reversing the trend that had seen a stream of players head to England with Southampton the most likely destination.
As well as a welcome cut of the van Dijk fee the £75m paid by Liverpool gives Celtic a stronger negotiating hand in future deals with bids expected for Moussa Dembele next month.
