Barry Ferguson is gutted that Sevco aren’t quoted for John McGinn.

Celtic and a couple of English clubs have been linked with the Hibs midfielder who now has the title of best player in Scotland outside of the hoops.

With 18 months left on his contract McGinn seems certain to be sold during 2018 but with Carlos Pena and Eduardo Herrera draining Sevco of £4m in the summer they won’t be at the races for the Hibs man.

I’m just disappointed that Rangers are not even showing an interest,” the former Clyde boss told Peter Martin and Alan Rough. “I’d love to see him at Rangers.

I’ve always liked him but especially the last three or four months. I think he’s come on leaps and bounds.

I’ve watched his range of passing – that’s something he wasn’t great at.

Obviously he’s worked at that on the training ground. I think he’s got everything a modern-day midfielder needs.

I think he can go to the top. I would like to stay him stay up here in Scotland.”

Ferguson could get his wish to see McGinn stay north of the border but probably not where he’d prefer to see him ply his trade.

With an expected shortfall of £4m in this season’s accountsit’s likely that any January transfer business will be outgoing from Ibrox.

Without a manager Director of Football Mark Allen will be expected to produce a profit on transfer activity after the disastrous £10m spend by Pedro Caixinha in the summer.
