Jonny Hayes’ season is over after he fractured his tibia in Celtic’s 2-0 win over Dundee at Dens Park.

The winger went down after a clash with Dundee defender Josh Meekings and was stretchered off following six minutes of treatment on the pitch.

According to a report in the Irish Independent the winger will be out of action for six months.

The news is a cruel blow for the player who scored his first Celtic goal against Aberdeen at the weekend.

Brendan Rodgers knew the Dubliner from their time together at Reading and splashed out £1.3m to sign him from Aberdeen during the summer.

After yesterday’s match Rodgers was hopeful that a fracture had been avoided but today’s news means that he will join Patrick Roberts on the sidelines leaving Mikey Johnston as the back up winger to James Forrest and Scott Sinclair.

Celtic have still to comment on the nature of the injury.
