McInnes speaks out

Derek McInnes has spoken out about his decision to snub a move to Sevco.

Six weeks of spin came to a halt last night when Aberdeen announced that their manager was staying put despite the outside pressure.

Dozens of former Rangers (IL) players had been reeled in to explain the benefits of a move to Ibrox but crucially Walter Smith wasn’t one of them.

The dire state of finances at Ibrox has carefully been covered up as has the chaotic decision making process that took six weeks to get a rejection from the only candidate.

Highlighting the lack of co-ordination Sevco issued an incredible statement last night that attempted to tarnish McInnes’ reputation but only succeeded in showcasing how inept Sevco are at every level.

McInnes revealed: “I had something to consider because when in life you are deemed to be doing well then you normally get interest, offers or decisions to make but I wasn’t prepared to walk away just yet, I am really happy here as everyone knows.

And I wasn’t prepared to tarnish relationships I have built here over the last wee while. The focus should be on the football now and hopefully everything settles down.

Since the official approach was made on Tuesday, we quickly put it to bed by Thursday.

It’s important to get back to winning games and having the focus on the team.

I think the team have got off lightly not winning games when the focus is on myself but we want to get back to winning matches now and that’s where the focus is.

We want people speaking about a winning Aberdeen team, nothing else.”

Graeme Murty will continue in charge of Sevco until the turn of the year as they scrape the barrell with the odds on Alex McLeish taking over tumbling.
