Roberts injury blow

Brendan Rodgers is hoping to get to the bottom of Patrick Roberts’ hamstring problems.

The winger lasted 10 minutes of Wednesday’s clash against Motherwell before being substituted and suffered a similar injury in October against Kilmarnock.

Roberts is only on a season long loan from Manchester City with the first half of the season only providing the 20-year-old with limited opportunities to shine.

On his game Roberts is an undoubted match-winner with Rodgers determined to have him fully functioning after the winter break.

Discussing the re-occurance at Motherwell the Celtic boss told The Sun: “We’re waiting on the scan, but it’ll most probably be the problem he’s had with his hamstrings before.

It’s not ideal. We’re hoping it’s not too serious, but we’ll see what the scan says. Pat had a couple last year, but they were spread out.

He had it in pre-season, came back and played a bit but then had it again.

This is a really unfortunate circumstance, but the medical and sports science team are doing their work in looking over the trends.

They will see whether there’s something mechanical behind it or if there’s something the player can do better. So they will investigate that and have a look at it.

It’s unfortunate for Pat because he started the game well last night, and when he’s in the mood he’s a joy to watch.”

Celtic will also be without Moussa Dembele and Nir Bitton for tomorrow’s match with Motherwell as they start a hectic programme of fixtures through December.

Rodgers is likely to rest a number of key players in order to ensure that they are in peek condition for the visit of Anderlecht on Tuesday with the hoops looking to clinch a place in the Europa League.
