Which striker does Brendan pick to face Hibs?

Away to Rosenborg in August Brendan Rodgers didn’t have a striker available for his starting XI.

James Forrest started through the centre then switched to the right when Leigh Griffiths came on as a substitute and scored the decisive goal that took Celtic through to the Champions League Play-Off against Astana.

On Sunday away to Hibs Rodgers has the luxury of having three strikers to select from.

The December fixture list is heavy although the midweek home matches against Hamilton and Partick Thistle should allow a little squad rotation while the weekend games against Hibs, Hearts and Aberdeen will require full strength teams.

A year ago the Rodgers Adventure was unfolding to devastating effect, recently there has been suggestions of a staleness about the team while some opponents seems more turned in to stopping Celtic from playing.

Neil Lennon will have a better idea than most about how to ask questions of Celtic, earlier this season Hibs came close to ending the invincible run but had to settle for a point in a 2-2 draw.

With five days to prepare for following the defeat by Anderlecht the squad will be fresh, when the team is announced most eyes will be on who gets the nod to play as striker.

ODSONNE EDOUARD

With four goals from three starts and two substitute appearances the young Frenchman certainly has the stats to merit a start- and the form following his hat-trick against Motherwell.

Keeping three strikers happy and sharp when the system only allows for one to be playing is a difficult task but against Motherwell the kid on loan from Paris Saint Germain showed that it is possible.

Starting him would be quite a statement but the arrival of a third striking option might be just what the front line is needing.

MOUSSA DEMBELE

It really has been a stop-start-stop season for last season’s top scorer.

When he scored doubles against Aberdeen and Hibs then a hat-trick against the Slovenian u-21 side it looked like he was back in the groove but the boot of Cedric Kipre brought that idea to a halt.

Fortunately he recovered in time to face Anderlecht but looked a touch off the pace like most of his team-mates.

It could be that he is just needing a goal to get back to top form with the remainder of this month the ideal time to rediscover that scoring touch.

LEIGH GRIFFITHS

It’s the away dressing room on Sunday.

Griffiths seems to be suffering a bit from taking the hoops through the Champions League qualifiers and carrying the goal burden of Scotland’s World Cup campaign.

He has only scored twice in the last two months but they were both classy finishes- at home to Kilmarnock and away to Ross County.

Griffiths could well outlast his two current strike rivals but right now he’ll want to get ahead of them in Brendan Rodgers’ plans.
